At a speech at the IISS-Oberoi Discussion Forum in Delhi on 29 January 2013, Director-General Pascal Lamy commented that “while the world is mutipolarising at an unprecedented scale and speed, and production and trade value chains are multilateralising, trade governance seems to be bilateralising.” He warned that “we risk scattering the level playing field”.

US files dispute against China on subsidies to the automobile industry

China files dispute against US countervailing and anti-dumping measures

WTO announces winner of 2012 Essay Award for Young Economists

The winner of the WTO Essay Award for Young Economists 2012 is Treb Allen of Yale University. His article, entitled Information Frictions in Trade, was ranked first by the Academic Selection Panel. The award was announced at a plenary session of the European Trade Study Group annual meeting in Leuven, Belgium, on 15 September 2012.

Lamy: The WTO has its doors open to all, not least NGOs

Speaking at the CUTS 30th Anniversary Lecture on 9 July 2013 during the Fourth Global Review of Aid for Trade, Director-General Pascal Lamy said that over the past 30 years “the multilateral trading system has witnessed radical transformations. What was once a members-only club has its doors open to all, not least the non-governmental organizations (NGOs).”

Director-General Elect Azevêdo announces his four Deputy Directors-General

Director-General elect, Roberto Azevêdo has announced the appointment of Yi Xiaozhun of China, Karl-Ernst Brauner of Germany, Yonov Frederick Agah of Nigeria and David Shark of the United States as his four Deputies Director-General. The new Director-General will begin his term on 1 September while his deputies begin service on 1 October 2013.
